1. Country Clearance is granted to Ms. Jeanne Bailey, Area Director,
Western Hemisphere, USDA, Foreign Agricultural Service, Washington
D.C. to travel to Kingston, Jamaica for a supervisory site visit
arriving Monday, March 5 and departing Wednesday, March 7.
2. The in-country contact person for Ms. Bailey is Sylburn Thomas,
Agricultural Specialist, who can be reached by telephone at
876-702-6142, 399-2591 or by fax at 876-702-6397. He can be reached
via e-mail at sylburn.thomas@usda.gov.
3. Per reftel request, hotel reservations have been made for Ms.
Bailey at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Knutsford Boulevard, Kingston
5; telephone 876-926-3690; the reservation confirmation number is
180684. The rate is approximately US132 per night.
4. Visitors traveling to Jamaica for periods less than two weeks do
not require a visa.
5. There have been no specific threats directed against official
American visitors or American visitors or American tourists who
visit Jamaica. However, Jamaica has been designated a critical
threat country because of street crime. It is recommended that
caution be exercised while traveling in the Kingston. Walking after
dark is not advised. Care should be taken if driving at night.
Overall, the same level of awareness should be exercised as in large
cities in the United States.
6. Travelers' checks can be exchanged for Jamaican dollars at a
local bank located near the Embassy. ATM machines are also
available.
