AGREE IN PRINCIPLE TO NATIONAL UNITY GOVERNMENT

We delivered reftel demarche to the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs' Middle East and International Security and
Disarmament Directorates. In a statement read to poloff, the
Middle East Directorate said, "The Government of Indonesia
welcomes and supports the Mecca Agreement between Fatah and
Hamas, and expects it will be implemented though the
formation of a national unity government in the near future.
The GOI considers the agreement to be an important
achievement and strategic move, and hopes the international
community, and especially the Quartet, will give the
agreement positive consideration." Local media have also
reported that Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda said the
Government of Indonesia has congratulated the Palestinian
authority, "especially Hamas, which succeeded in forming a
unity government. We hope that the process of dialogue and
peace with Israel will move forward better than before."
