SUBJECT: PAKISTAN CONDUCTS SUCCESSFUL TEST OF RAAD CRUISE
MISSILE

(U) On August 25 Pakistan successfully tested a new cruise
missile capable of carrying nuclear weapons. The Hatf-VIII
or Raad missile has a range of approximately 220 miles. In
March, the Pakistani military tested the Hatf-VII or Babar
missile which has a range of 430 miles. Per an earlier
agreement, Pakistan and India are required to notify each
other before testing ballistic missiles, but are not required
to do so for non-ballistic missiles.
