1. (C) On May 25, Ambassador Oumar Demba Ba, one of
President Wade's Diplomatic Advisors, told DCM that Senegal
has decided to contribute to an African Union peacekeeping
force in the Comoros. The size, timing and logistics
involved in this seventh ongoing peacekeeping mission have
not been determined.
2. (U) COMMENT: Approximately 500 students from the Comoros
study at Dakar's Cheikh Anta Diop University, and, in spite
of the distances, Senegal has enjoyed strong ties with the
Comoros since Leopold Sedar Senghor was President of Senegal
(1960-1981). END COMMENT.
