1. (C) Although the government of Burundi (GOB) is a
supporter of many U.S. foreign policy initiatives, at this
time, it is unlikely that Burundi will have the civilian or
military resources to contribute to the New Way Forward
initiative in Iraq. The primary efforts undertaken by the
GOB's Ministry of Defense in this post-conflict era are
focused on the demobilization of rebel forces, the resumption
of talks with the PALIPEHUTU-FNL, and contributing troops and
equipment to the AMISOM effort in Somalia.
