1. (S) Senior State Secretary (Deputy Secretary- equivalent)
Dr. Marta Fekszi called DCM March 9 to advise him that the
proposed Iranian Ambassadors conference in Budapest has been
cancelled.


2. (S) Fekszi had been in touch with the Iranian Ambassador
in Budapest per her reftel commitment. She noted that they
had responded by citing a scheduling conflict between the
proposed date of the conference (April 4 - 6) and an
Iran-China meeting that would require the FM's attendance.


3. (S) The Ambassador went on to note that the Iranian
government will plan to reschedule the European Ambassadors
Conference at a later date in Tehran.


4. (S) Post appreciates Department's rapid provision of
guidance in response to GoH approaches, which was
instrumental in turning around both the working and senior
levels of the MFA and securing the right result.
