1. Director of Barbados Port Security, Anthony Benn credited the
DS/ATA VIP Major Events Planning Course (Nassau, March 27-April 2,
2006) for inspiring the Barbados National Port Security Plan used
during Cricket World Cup 2007 (CWC). Mr. Benn asked RSO to convey
his appreciation for the professional instruction and useful
materials provided during the course.
2. COMMENT: The GOB often declines training opportunities offered
by the USG, perhaps out of a misplaced sense of being perceived as
dependent. The exception made for CWC-related training appears to
have opened a locked door. Relations between the Embassy and the
Port Authority are now stronger thanks largely to ATA. END COMMENT
