1. (C) Poloff delivered reftel points to MFA's Deputy Head of
Security Policy Department Lubomir Macko on September 7.
Macko said Slovakia will continue to support SYG de Hoop
Scheffer's proposal that the NAC join him on his October 3-4
trip to Georgia, but only in the context of Georgia's
participation in Intensified Dialogue. Slovakia is "aware of
the political implications of a NAC trip (to Georgia) and
understands why some Allies are uncomfortable".
2. (C) Macko said he would raise the US request to engage
with reluctant Allies with his superiors but, since the FM
would have to approve such a move, it is probably too late
for Slovakia to do any lobbying before the September 12
meeting.
