SUBJECT: AMBASSADOR BROWNFELD PRESENTS CREDENTIALS TO
PRESIDENT URIBE
(U) Ambassador Brownfield presented his credentials to
President Uribe on September 12 at the Casa de Narino. Uribe
told the Ambassador that U.S. Congressional approval of the
bilateral Free Trade Agreement is critical, and committed to
work with him to address outstanding concerns. President
Uribe thanked him for U.S. support in capturing major
terrorist leaders, as well as narcotraffickers, and stressed
the importance of continued U.S. assistance. He hoped the
GOC--with U.S. help--would soon capture members of the FARC
secretariat. Uribe concluded by asking the Ambassador to
