1. (S) Global Affairs officer passed ref demarche to German
MFA Export Control Division Desk Officer Andreas Kauke April
13. Kauke thanked us for the information and said he will
pass it to the German federal inter-agency export control
group for investigation. He said the provision of the
nuclear proliferation-related items in question and the names
of the German exporter, Iranian end user, and Chinese
intermediate consignee will assist the German export control
authorities in investigating this case.
2. (S) Kauke confirmed that the German Government has
heightened vigilance over exports to Iran, in keeping with
UNSCRs 1737 and 1747 and the EU Common Position on
implementing the UNSC sanctions. According to Kauke, the
German export control authorities and Customs officials would
deem the rotary pumps useful to Iran's nuclear program and
prevent their export to Iran.
3. (S) Post will report any additional German response septel.
