1. (u) This is an action request, see para 4.


2. (u) On August 8, emboff delivered diplomatic note and reftel
points to Vanja Radonjic-Rakic, Counsellor in the Serbian Ministry
for Foreign Affairs' Directorate for United Nations. Radonjic-Rakic
was receptive to the talking points and consideration of Ms. Gaer's
re-election and found her curriculum vitae impressive. Rakic noted
that the MFA's decisions on such elections are normally made
approximately two weeks before the vote.


3. (u) Rakic used the opportunity to request support for Serbia's
candidacy in upcoming fall elections for a seat on the Governing
Council, UNIP, and for the Council on Human Rights. Rakic also
proposed reciprocal support for at least one of the candidates.


4. (u) Action request: Embassy would welcome Department guidance
with regard to GoS request in para three.
