SUBJECT: IAEA/IRAN: POINTS ON MID-NOVEMBER REPORT DELIVERED
REF: STATE 151038
Classified By: Political Counselor Robin Quinville for 1.4 (b) and (d)
(C) Pol-Mil Chief delivered reftel points to MFA Senior
Non-Proliferation Officer Dionyssios Kyvetos on November 5,
2007. Kyvetos noted that the EU is likely to seek a common
statement at the IAEA Board of Governors Meeting, and he
added that both France and the UK have been "as bold as they
can be" on pressing the IAEA to hold Iran to the Work Plan.
Kyvetos termed the U.S. criteria for evaluating any positive
progress reported by the IAEA in its mid-November report on
the centrifuge issue "helpful," and promised that Greece
would study it carefully. However, he demurred when asked
whether Greece would have its own national thoughts on what
it would like to see in order to judge any claim of positive
progress by Iran. Finally, he noted that he expected this
issue to be among the subjects discussed at the November 14
CODOUN in Brussels -- and he said Greece would likely follow
others' lead within the EU on this issue.
