1. (C) On September 7, Charge delivered reftel points on Iran
issue at upcoming IAEA board of governors meeting to Greek
MFA Secretary General Aristides Agathokles. NOTE: Agathokles
told Charge a few days ago that FM Bakoyannis said she would
be all-consumed by the campaign for the September 16
elections and that Agathokles was to consider himself the
acting FM until after the elections. END NOTE.
2. (C) Agathokles asked a few factual questions and promised
to give the demarche high priority. He also noted that
simultaneously with our meeting, the Iranian ambassador to
Greece and a special Iranian presidential advisor were in the
MFA, ostensibly to discuss Iranian assistance to Greece on
fire recovery, though Agathokles speculated they were likely
there to discuss the IAEA issue as well. Agathokles
mentioned that Greek Ambassador to Teheran Karafotias was in
Athens and had delayed his return to post to attend the
meeting.
