E.O. 12958: DECL: 09/10/2017
TAGS: KNNP MNUC AORC GH
SUBJECT: GHANA'S RESPONSE TO MINISTERIAL-LEVEL DEMARCHE
REGARDING IRAN ISSUE AT UPCOMING IAEA BOARD OF GOVERNORS
MEETING.

REF: SECSTATE 124823

Classified By: CDA GARY PERGL FOR REASONS 1.4 (b) and (d).

(C) On September 10, CDA delivered reftel talking points and
information to Deputy Foreign Minister Charles Brimpong
Yeboah at the MFA. While Yeboah could not definitively speak
to how the GOG would approach this issue, he pointed out that
the GOG generally works very closely with the U.S. on all
issues. Ghana, he said, is certainly concerned about the
proliferation of nuclear weapons and is "generally against
what is happening in Iran." Yeboah said that he will pass
the information to his superiors and the MFA will also reach
out to its representatives at the UN and the IAEA to
determine steps forward.
