5-8 General Assembly Meeting - UAE response

1. (S) On November 1, DCM spoke with UAE's designated representative
at November 5-8 INTERPOL General Assembly in Marrakech, Ministry of
Interior Director of Interpol, Lt. Col. Ali Salem Al Khayal, strongly
supporting message conveyed on October 28 by Argentinian ambassador
to the UAE, Ruben Edwardo Caro. Al Khayal took the points on board,
but said he would await final guidance from his Ministry.
2. (S) Ambassador Caro welcomed Embassy offer to weigh in to support
his government's position and efforts to achieve justice as a result
of the AMIA bombing. Caro said he had not and was not planning to
talk to other foreign embassies about the matter. British DCM
indicated that he had received no instruction to demarche.
3. (S) Also on November 1, DCM followed up with MFA Acting U/S Tariq
Al Haidan who was familiar with the issue. Al Haidan said he
appreciated the information and the U.S. perspective and would be
talking to UAE's representative to the Interpol General Assembly
meeting (Al Khayal).
