(SBU) Pol-EconOff delivered reftel demarche on March 31 to
Dr. Jean-Paul Klein, head of the Infectious Diseases Unit at
the Ministry of Health and Women, the lead government agency
on this matter. In a follow-up conversation on April 3,
Klein said that Dr. Hubert Hrabcik, Director General for
Public Health, has instructed Dr. Helmut Friza, Health
Attache at Austria's Mission to the UN in Geneva, to follow
the U.S. lead on this issue on behalf of the EU Presidency.
If the draft resolution is deemed unacceptable, the EU will
intervene at the World Health Assembly, where Klein said
there would be an opportunity to lobby for changes. Klein
will represent Austria and the EU Presidency at the World
Health Assembly.
