SCHEDULE

1. The Chairman of the Sixth Committee, Juan Manuel Gomez
Robledo (Mexico) convened a meeting of member state delegates
on September 27 to discuss plans for the Sixth Committee
session which begins on October 10. Gomez Robledo called the
group's attention to the tentative calendar of work
(A/C.6/61/L.1) and noted that a schedule for the ILC debate
by topic has been posted on the Sixth Committee website. He
highlighted the new item on "The Rule of law at the national
and international levels" and noted that the Bureau had
prepared a paper describing the topic (faxed L/UNA). In
response to a question about the desired outcome of
consideration of this topic, Gomez-Robledo said that it is
too early to tell.

2. The Chairman announced that Amb Perera, (Sri Lanka),the
Chairman of the Committee that has been negotiating the
Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism (CCIT),
will be in New York and available for consultations from
October 5. He urged delegations to consult with Amb Perera
in order to facilitate work on the convention. The Egyptian
delegate asked whether the Working Group on the CCIT would
meet during the session but Gomez-Robledo responded that
delegations should first consult the Ad Hoc Committee
Chairman before asking the Sixth Committee to convene the
group.

3. Gomez Robledo also mentioned a number of Legal Committee
related events that are scheduled to take place during the
next two months. These include:

Oct 13 - Briefing by Office of Legal Affairs on its Activities
Oct 20 - Informal Meeting with the President of the Law of
the Sea Tribunal
Oct 23,25 - Legal Advisers meetings
Oct 26 - Panel sponsored by Austria's Delegation, "Role of
the Security Council as World Executive?"
