1. Having considered the reports of the Secretary-General on the estimates in respect of Special Political Missions (SPMs) authorized by the General Assembly and/or the Security Council, as well as the related reports of the Advisory Committee on Administrative and Budgetary Questions (ACABQ), on June 29, 2006, the 5th Committee approved additional 2006 appropriations needed for SPMs in Afghanistan, Lebanon and Timor-Leste. 2. The budget for three SPMs were approved as follows: for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), $54,744,100 for the period from April 1 - December 31, 2006; for the United Nations International Independent Investigation Commission (UNIIIC), $17,020,000 for the period from June 16 - December 31, 2006; for the United Nations Office in Timor-Leste (UNOTIL), $5,253,500 for the period from June 21 - August 31,2006. 3. A charge of $51,908,500 was approved, corresponding to the unassigned balance against the provision for special political missions, of the proposed program budget for 2006-2007. Therefore, the additional appropriations for these missions exceeded the allocation of $355,949,300 for SPMs by $19,065,700. The assessment for these funds will be issued on January 1, 2007. BOLTON |
