1. This is an action request. Post received a dipnote from
MFA June 12 seeking an exchange of support for Tunisian
candidate to the UN Human Rights Committee Abdelfattah Amor
and US candidate Prof. Ruth Wedgwood. Post seeks Department
guidance in responding to this request.

2. Relevant text of the dipnote follows (translation from
French):

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs presents its compliments to
the Embassy of the United States of America in Tunis and has
the honor to propose an exchange of support between the
candidacy of Mr. Abdelfattah Amor for the Human Rights
Committee and that of Prof. Ruth Wedgewood for the same
organization, whose elections will take place September 7,
2006 in New York, during the meeting of State Parties to the
International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs would be grateful to the
Embassy of the United States of America if it would
communicate its response to this proposal. End text.
