1. (C/NF) On June 28, NEA DAS Gordon Gray, accompanied by
Ambassador, raised reftel demarche on supporting Guatemala's
UNSC candidacy during a meeting with Tunisian Deputy Foreign
Minister for the Americas and Asia Saida Chtioui. Chtioui
said that it will not be difficult for Tunisia to follow the
U.S. position, as Tunisia "has never had a close relationship
with Venezuela." She explained that Tunisia's ambassador in
Washington is accredited to Venezuela as well, and that the
relationship is limited to protocol and diplomatic relations.
Chtioui added, "We do not feel like we have to support
Venezuela."
2. COMMENT: Post has demarched this issue several time in
recent months. This is the first substantive response we
have received. END COMMENT.
