LEAD STORIES: Friday morning's Yomiuri front-paged the
sectarian violence at the Shiite Golden Mosque Wednesday
in Samarra, Iraq, killing at least 130 people.
1. "Dark Clouds Hanging over the Formation of an Iraqi
Government" Cairo correspondent Okamoto of the top-
circulation, moderate Yomiuri commented (2/24): "The
bombing of the Shiite Askariya Golden Mosque in Samarra,
central Iraq, has led to the intensification of protests
by Shiite radicals calling for reprisals against Sunnis,
throwing Iraq into a serious situation. Calls for
restraint by Shiite Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani have
not calmed the situation, which appears likely to
negatively affect the already difficult negotiations over
the formation of a permanent government."
