2. On June 19, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and
Fisheries (MAFF) lifted a ban it had imposed on the
importation of French poultry meat and guts or foie gras.
MAFF confirmed that French authorities completed outbreak
control measures in the affected areas and that no further
outbreaks occurred for 90 days afterwards. Imports were
placed on hold since February 24. For further details see
Tokyo 1112.

-- Importation of Canadian Chickens to Stop --

3. On June 18, in response to the recent outbreak of avian
influenza in Canada, MAFF announced that it instituted a
ban on the importation of Canadian poultry meat and guts.
Japan imported 167 tons of poultry meat, 2,729 tons of
processed egg products, and 33,686 tons of live poultry
from Canada in 2005.
