(C) On May 26, Embassy Tokyo Political Officer conveyed
reftel demarche to MOFA UN Policy Division officer Michiyo
Kotake. On June 7, Ms. Kotake responded that MOFA had
already responded through its Mission to the UN that Japan
supports the DPKO position. If, however, the United States,
United Nations and DPKO could reach an agreed unified
position, then Japan could accept that position.
