1. (S) Ministry of Foreign Affairs International
Counterterrorism Cooperation Division Deputy Director Miyako
Ishimura informed Embassy Political Officer on June 1, 2006
that Japan would place a hold on Yemen's request to remove
Abd al-Majid al-Zindani from the UN 1267 Committee list of
those subject to sanction. Ishimura said that Japan had
already notified our Mission in New York about the decision.
Japan decided to place a hold on the delisting request
because Yemen had not submitted adequate information to
support its request. Should Yemen provide more substantial
evidence, Japan would reconsider its response, Ishimura said.
