Statement by Mr. Taro Aso, Minister of Foreign Affairs, on
the Iranian nuclear issue: U.S. proposal on negotiation with
Iran
1. Japan supports the proposal of the United States that it
will come to the table with the EU 3 countries and meet with
the Iranian representatives, as soon as Iran fully and
verifiably suspends its enrichment and reprocessing
activities.
2. Since it is essential for the international society as a
whole to address the Iranian nuclear issue in a resolute
manner, Japan is determined to continue playing a fair role
in close consultation with the parties concerned.
3. Japan reiterates its strong expectation that Iran will
appropriately respond to this issue for its peaceful and
diplomatic solution.
