(C) During a lengthy discussion of outstanding issues on
February 2 with ROK Chief Secretary for National Security
Song Min-soon (other issues reported septel),the Ambassador
expressed appreciation for the ROK's continuing support at
the International Atomic Energy Agency on the Iranian nuclear
issue. The United States was aware that Iran was attempting
to apply economic pressure to the ROK to influence its vote,
but we were counting on Korean support. Song assured the
Ambassador that Seoul would stand firm on the issue, but
pointed out that Iran was causing problems for Korean
economic interests.
