(SBU) On July 26, poloff delivered reftel points encouraging
support for a Fissile Material Cutoff Treaty (FMCT) on the
basis of the U.S. draft mandate, known as CD/1776, at the
Conference on Disarmament to Park Chul-min, Deputy Director
of the Disarmament and Nonproliferation Division at the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MOFAT). Park
responded that MOFAT's preliminary assessment was generally
positive. In a follow-up conversation on June 28, Park said
his office was waiting for a complete assessment from their
experts in Geneva and would keep us informed.
