(C) On May 24, poloff briefed reftel points, which discussed
the release of the 2006 Report to Congress on China's
Military Power by the Defense Department, to Deputy Director
Lee Heon and Assistant Director Park Chi-young of North
America Division III at MOFAT. Undertaking to share the
information with relevant officials, Lee stated that his
office had already reviewed the report and asked the
significance of mentioning North Korea on page 12. He said
he did not recall references to instability in North Korea in
previous reports and wanted to know if the USG had
information that the ROKG was not aware of. He also
highlighted that the reference to the DPRK had already been
made by the local press.
