SUBJECT: DOMINICAN FUGITIVE ANTONIO LANTIGUA EXTRADITED TO
THE U.S.

1. On August 23, 2006, U.S. Marshals returned Antonio de
Jesus Lantigua Vargas to the United States for trial in the
State of New York, where he is the subject of indictment
number 3864-2005, filed August 3, 2005. As detailed in the
indictment, Lantigua is alleged to have committed Sodomy in
the first degree (2 counts),Criminal Sex Acts in the first
degree (5 counts),and Sexual Abuse in the first degree (7
counts) against a child who was then nine (9) years of age.
Two (2) additional counts of Endangering the Welfare of a
Child complete the indictment.

2. Lantigua was apprehended by officers of the Dominican
National Directorate for Drug Control's Fugitive Unit only
one week after the August 3rd issuance of a Dominican arrest
warrant (based on the U.S. request for extradition).
Lantigua made a knowing, voluntary and independent waiver of
his right to challenge his extradition before the Criminal
Chamber of the Dominican Supreme Court and his extradition
was properly confirmed by presidential decree.

3. Lantigua is the 26th fugitive extradited to the United
States during FY-2006 and the 16th extradited during this
calendar year.
