1. On December 1, Post received Diplomatic Note No. 373
requesting U.S. support for the candidacy of Marta Mauras
Perez to the Committee on the Rights of the Chile. Paragraph
two contains Post's informal translation of the Note. Post
sent translated text, Ms. Perez' CV and the original dipnote
to WHA/BSC's Chile Desk Officer Kendall Moss.

Ministry of Foreign Relations
No 373

The Ministry of Foreign Relations - Directorate of
Multilateral Policy - presents its compliments to the Embassy
of the United States of America and has the honor to inform
that the Government of Chile has formalized with the High
Commissioner for Human Rights the candidacy of Marta Mauras
Perez to fill one of the nine vacancies to be opened in the
Committee on the Rights of the Child. The elections will
take place during the XI Meeting of States Parties to the
Convention on the Rights of the Child on February 21st 2007,
in New York.

Ms. Mauras obtained a Bachelor's degree in sociology from the
Catholic University of Chile, and received a certificate in
Administration from the Public Administration School in
University of Connecticut. Currently, Ms. Mauras is Secretary
of the Commission of Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).
As Secretary, Ms. Mauras has played an active and
distinguished role in the United Nations and UNICEF, where
she held the post of Regional Director for Latin America and
the Caribbean.

On the merits of the above and considering the excellent
bonds of friendship and cooperation between both countries,
the Government of Chile requests the valuable support of the
Government of the United States for the mentioned candidacy.

vitae is attached.

The Ministry of Foreign Relations - Directorate of
Multilateral Policy - avails itself of this opportunity to
renew to the Embassy of the United States of America the
assurances of its highest and most distinguished
