ON RAW SUGAR TARIFF RATE QUOTA: EL SALVADOR

1. Per reftel, Post contacted Government of El Salvador
certifying authority Salvadoran Sugar Council (CONSAA) to
request a written response reflecting sugar supply
possibilities for the marketing year 2006 (MY06). Talking
points were also delivered to CONSAA.


2. In a letter dated February 7, 2006, CONSAA stated the
following:
a) El Salvador will comply with the TRQ allocated for
MY06.
b) Regarding any future allocations, El Salvador is
currently in the period for milling sugarcane and is thus
able to supply additional sugar that the United States might
assign to El Salvador under the TRQ program, as has been the
case in past years.


3. As of January 1, 2006, El Salvador had exported
36,101.66 metric tons under the MY06 TRQ allocation.
