1. Embassy is in receipt of a letter from the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs indicating that the GOES will nominate
Ambassador Roberto Mejia Trabanino for a 2007-2010 position
on the UN Human Rights Committee, the elections for which
will take place September 9, 2006 in New York. Trabanino has
served as MFA Director of Human Rights, on the 1994
Presidential Commission for Human Rights, and as El
Salvador's representative on the Committee of Independent
Experts of the European Union's Program for Human Rights
Promotion in Central America and Panama. Post will transmit
copies of letter and accompanying bio to WHA/CEN via fax.
