(C) On June 2, poloff spoke with Mario Rivera, Multilateral
Affairs Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Rivera
stated that El Salvador would seek the IOM EXCOM chair and
that he had spoken with his mission in Geneva. Rivera stated
that he had already spoken to Salvadoran Ambassador Byron
Larios in Geneva to instruct him to enter El Salvador's name
as a candidate for the chair, but noted that it was already 7
pm and that little time remained for El Salvador to contact
other missions in Geneva on the subject. The GOES has
instructed Larios to contact other members of the GRULAC for
support of their candidacy.
