REQUEST TO EXTEND 100 PERCENT CW DESTRUCTION DEADLINE

1. (SBU) On April 27, poloff discussed reftel U.S. extension
request to destroy chemical weapons stockpiles with MFA
Director of International Organizations and UN Affairs Nasser
Bourita. Bourita expressed surprise that the U.S. was
requesting an extension, noting that it was usually the
Russians who make such a request. Poloff sent Bourita reftel
talking points as a nonpaper, a copy of the U.S. extension
request, and Ambassador Javits's April 20 statement. Bourita
undertook to discuss the issue further once he has studied
all of the documents.
