1. (C) Poloff delivered reftel demarche regarding Iran and a
possible OIC resolution on the right of nations to develop
nuclear energy for peaceful purposes on June 16 to MFA Chief
of the Division of Arab and Islamic Organizations Hassan
Hami. Hami noted that MFA Director General for Multilateral
Relations Mohamed Azeroual would be attending the OIC meeting
in Baku. He said he understood the issue of nuclear power
was on the agenda, but thought that the OIC would be
"inclined to issue a balanced statement" on the subject.
Hami pledged to convey US points to the Moroccan delegation
attending the meeting, but made no further substantive
comment.
