SUBJECT: ANOTHER SUCCESS FOR T&T CANINE ACADEMY


1. The Trinidad and Tobago Homicide Squad put a canine-
in-training at the INL-supported T&T Canine Academy
through his paces on July 6. After watching "Red"
perform training exercises at the academy, the Squad
requested that he search a wooded, mountainous area
near Morvant, to the east of Port of Spain and an area
known for harboring criminals. The Squad suspected
that the body of a man who was abducted from the area
on June 28 was hidden there. "Red," believed to be the
only cadaver-detection canine in the Caribbean,
successfully located the body of the missing person.


2. COMMENT: This is another success for the Canine
Academy, and bodes well for its future as a regional
training location. The canines trained at the academy
continue to log successes in detecting narcotics and
explosives, controlling crowds and now, in locating
missing bodies. These successes show an immediate
return on the INL and GOTT investment and prove how
effective a tool these canines can be in the ongoing
fight against crime in T&T. END COMMENT.
