1. In August, the continuing high price of oil in the
international market translated into an increase (7.5
percent) in the cost of petroleum product imports, which
affected significantly the price of transport (up plus 1.3
percent). As a result, the CPI was up 0.7 percent compared
to the month of July. On an annualized basis, the CPI
inflation for 2006 would be 12.2 percent. Another factor in
the August increase was the higher cost of school textbooks
(plus 23.8 percent); the school year in Haiti began in
September.
