1. (C) On March 1, poloff delivered reftel message to Vasos
Chamberlain, who handles Russian and Eastern European issues
in the MFA's Division of bilateral affairs. Chamberlain said
that Belarus was discussed at the Informal Meeting of EU
Foreign Affairs Ministers held March 10-11 (Gymnich) in
Salzburg, and that Cyprus would discuss the U.S. position on
the elections with its EU partners. He noted that the
outcome of the election was of great importance not only to
Belarus, but also to the Baltic countries and Poland.
