External Affairs Joint Secretary (UN Economic and Social)
Manjeev Singh Puri, who stated that India is willing to keep
the current UN scale of assessments in place, noting that it
is an agreed upon system which is working well. He predicted
that the 22% ceiling rate will remain in place, but warned
that the EU and Japan may object. Puri opined that making
"side deals" on developing country contributions risks
upsetting the current assessment balance in the UN.
