1. (SBU) MEA Deputy Secretary (UN Economic and Social)
Prashant Pise told Poloff on March 7 in response to reftel
demarche that the MEA's legal division was preparing the
ratification process for the Third Additional Protocol to the
Geneva Conventions. "We will sign it," he stated, but did
not give a date for signature. He added that India will
continue to support efforts to implement the Protocol in
future meetings and conferences, including at the June
conference in Geneva to amend the statutes of the Red Cross
and Red Crescent Movement.
