1. (SBU) During a November 15 discussion with Acting Foreign
Minister Sekatle, Ambassador reemphasized our interest in
Lesotho's support for Professor Michael Matheson's continuing
presence on the UN International Law Commission. The Acting
Foreign Minister saw no objections to the Government of
Lesotho's (GOL) support for Professor Matheson and promised a
firm response after further consultations within the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs. (Note: Minister Sekatle is the Minister of
Local Government and has also been concurrently engaged in our
intense MCC discussions concerning Lesotho. Therefore, a final
response from the GOL might come a bit later than we would
prefer, given the fact that she is handling three (3) different
portfolios at this time. End Note.)
