Release of Corruption Report

1. (SBU) Below is language recommended for the press release
about the release of a report on corruption in Mozambique.
Begin Text
On June 1 the Department of State will release a report on
corruption in Mozambique titled, "Corruption Assessment:
Mozambique." Management Systems International of
Washington, DC, authored the study, which was contracted by
the U.S. Agency for International Development in Maputo,
Mozambique.
Fighting corruption encourages good governance, strengthens
civil society and promotes stable economic development. At
the June 2003 G8 Summit in Evian, France, the leaders of all
eight member nations approved an anti-corruption and
transparency action plan. They committed themselves to
assist developing countries to provide for accountability
and adopt transparency. This independent report flows
directly from that commitment.
Copies in English and Portuguese will be available on the
website of the U.S. Embassy in Maputo at
http://maputo.usembassy.gov. The report does not
necessarily reflect the views of the U.S. Government.
