(C) Pol/Econ Chief May 21 delivered reftel demarche
concerning the Hague Code of Conduct Against Ballistic
Missile Proliferation to MFA Director for International
Organization Affairs Ghassan Shaikho. Shaikho said he would
discuss subscribing to the HCOC with contacts at the Bahrain
Defense Force. He understood the U.S. interest in promoting
the HCOC in the context of other non-proliferation
initiatives including the Proliferation Security Initiative
and the Chemical Weapons Convention Host Country Agreement.
He also said he would research Bahrain's vote in the December
8, 2005 UNGA resolution on the Code.
