(C) The UK's Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) informed
us that the UK supports the reftel country-specific human
rights resolutions in the UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Third
Committee. FCO Deputy Head of Human Rights, Democracy and
Governance Group Charles Lonsdale told us November 6 that the
UK appreciated U.S. lobbying for the EU sponsored resolutions
(DPRK, Burma) and that the UK was co-sponsoring the U.S.
resolutions (Belarus, Uzbekistan). Lonsdale also noted that
the UK was disappointed that the EU could not uniformly agree
to co-sponsor the U.S. resolutions, but the FCO was
encouraging more EU countries to do so.
