1. (U) Action Request; please see paragraph 3.
2. (C) The UK agrees "somewhat reluctanctly" to accept a
UNSCR on UNMIS without reference to the Lord's Resistance
Army (LRA). FCO-DFID Sudan Unit Deputy Head James Thornton
told Poloff this in response to reftel demarche, adding that
the UK would like the UNSC to find some way to support the
ongoing peace negotiations between the Government of Uganda
and the LRA. In this regard, Thornton solicited USG thoughts
on what possibilities may be available in the near future.
3. (C) Action Requested: We would be grateful for a reply
from the Department to Thornton's request for USG thoughts on
how the UNSC could support the GOU-LRA peace talks.
