1. (SBU) According to press reports, President Evo Morales plans to
start his own weekly radio call-in program, similar to the "Alo
Presidente" program hosted by Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.
Bolivian Director of Government Communications Gaston Nunez
explained the show may launch as early as January and will be
broadcast on the GOB's growing network of "communitarian" radio
stations as well as on the recently announced state-run TV station.

2. (SBU) Comment: Despite the GOB's assertions that the program will
not be like Chavez's "Alo Presidente," there is no doubt that Chavez
influenced the show's concept. The GOB's plan to launch a network
of 30 "communitarian" radio stations and a new TV station
demonstrate that President Morales is, at least to some extent,
following the Venezuelan script. End Comment.
