SUBJECT: ELEVEN LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS ESTABLISH "TRANSPARENCY
AND REFORM ALLIANCE" TO FIGHT CORRUPTION
1. Salah Al-Ghazali, Secretary General of the Transparency
and Reform Alliance (TRS),a coalition of eleven local
organizations formed to fight corruption, announced February
15 the approval of TRS's mission statement and charter, the
English-daily Arab Times reported. Commenting on the
occasion, Al-Ghazali said the members' key principles were
"transparency, accountability, integrity, and solidarity in
addition to courage, justice, and democracy." "Through
bolstering coordination among all civil community bodies on
the national level, the alliance hopes to boost transparency
and deal hard blows to corruption whether in the government
sector and the legislative authority or the private sector,"
he concluded.
2. The groups forming the alliance are: Kuwait Transparency
Society, Kuwait Bar Association, Kuwait Association of
Accountants and Auditors, Kuwait Engineers Society, Kuwait
Graduates Society, Kuwait Economists Society, Kuwait Teachers
Society, Kuwait Journalists Association, Kuwait Medical
Association, Together for Family Development, and the Society
for the Protection of Public Funds.
