ANNOUNCES HER CANDIDACY

1. On February 9, Municipal Council Chairman Abdullah Saud
Al-Muhailbi was nominated as Minister of State for Municipality
Affairs (reftel). His appointment leaves an open seat on the
16-member Council, which by law, must be filled in 60 days.
2. In a statement to the press on February 12, Janan Ramadan
Bushihri declared that she will compete in the elections in the
Salwa district for the seat. Bushihri will be the first Kuwaiti
woman to run for publicly-elected office. Two women already serve
on the Council; they were appointed by the GOK.

3. Bushihri was born in 1973. She is married and works as a
manager for the Food Inspection Department in the Service Affairs
Sector of the Municipal Council.
