-- Under the title "Assassination in Lebanon?" liberal Political
Science professor Dr. Shafiq Al-Ghabra inquired in moderate Arabic
daily Al-Rai(11/26):
"What is the justification for assassinating a young man performing
his duties as Minister of Industry in a country seeking to become a
tourist, investment, and financial hub in the Middle East? What is
the meaning of assassinating one journalist after another and
official after official? What is the secret behind the
assassinations of Lebanese officials who had courage and who
supported revealing those behind the assassination of the former
Lebanese Prime Minister Rafique Al-Hariri?"
-- "A Hot Winter in Lebanon" was the title of Adel Hasan Dashti's
piece in moderate Arabic daily Al-Rai in which he penned(11/26):
"Without a doubt, this crime aims -- as did its predecessors -- to
destabilize Lebanon and strike a blow at the national calm that
ensued following the civil war. There is a big responsibility now
on the heads of the Lebanese parties and religious and popular
groups to control themselves and their speeches. It is
incomprehensible under any condition that these leaders display more
emotion now than does the general population."
