-- Kuwait University Political Science Professor, Dr. Abdullah
Khalifa Al-Shaijy commented in moderate Arabic daily Al-Watan under
the title "The Fifth Anniversary of the September 11 Attacks
'America and the World Are Less Safe'" (9/12):

"Days ago a senate committee revealed another scandal for the Bush
Administration. It concluded that there was no link between Saddam
Hussein and bin Laden. This alleged relationship was mentioned
frequently in Bush's speeches and proves, as Senator Levin put it,
the exaggeration and falseness of the allegations. It puts more
holes in the excuses and justifications that the administration used
for its war on terror."

-- Under the title "Tough Five" Dr. Jassim Al-Fuhaid editorialized
in moderate Arabic daily Al-Rai Al-Aam (9/12):

"The number of victims [of terrorism] is in the hundreds of
thousands so far. But this war [against terror] has victims of
another type that fall like sand castles -- human rights. Puppet
leaders are used both with their consent and against their will.
Everyone is suffering in different degrees from this war, and when
it ends the celebration will be grand. But for now the cost of this
anniversary [September 11] has been very high on the whole world."

-- Salafi columnist Dr. Wael Al-Hasawi penned in moderate Arabic
daily Al-Rai Al-Aam under the title "They Convinced Us That We Are
Criminals" (9/12):

"A movie was shown on the Saudi channels depicting the suffering of
those present at the World Trade Center during the attack and
another depicting the lives of the hijackers. The problem with the
second is that it directly linked the young men's adherence to Islam
and their frustration over the situation of the Muslim world with
terrorist acts and suicide operations. Meanwhile, the great
majority of moderate practicing Muslims who fight terrorism goes
unmentioned."

-- Liberal Shiite columnist Ali Al-Baghli argued in progressive
Arabic daily Al-Qabas under the title "Lebanon Victorious at a High
Price" (9/12):

"Yes, Lebanon is victorious, but the price is high for such a
victory. We hope there are no more victories of this type so that
Lebanon does not have to pay this price on behalf of others a fifth
time, a sixth time, and indefinitely. The world is rushing to aid
Lebanon this time, but it may not do it again."
